Nitsy and Bitsy

NandBNitsy and Bitsy first appeared in Gab magazine (no longer published) in Chicago. It featured two young gay boys with little self perceptions, caught up in the glitz and glamor of the gay night life. I know! How completely unrealistic! The two basically represented feelings and thoughts I had about the gay community at the time.

I had a lot of friends at the time, who helped inspire various characters and strips. The Hipster Trio was modeled after 3 friends I hung around with a lot in the club scene. They thought it should be called the Hipster Four, but I didn’t want to included myself directly in the comic strip as a character. I was also able to put a lot of inside jokes in the strip. I always tried to work these in to be funny if anyone read them, but would have a deeper meaning for my friends.

I’ve always wanted to a longer story with Nitsy and Bitsy. As selfish and petty as they are, there is something about them that I do enjoy, possibly because they are so selfish and petty. Characters like this allow you to express ideas that you might think, but wouldn’t act on.

Here are several of my favorite strips.
